If you have a dream that you want to pursue then the first thing you should do is quit your J.O.B. (just over broke). The worst thing you can do is take a “temporary” job to help pay the bills.
Five years later you’re stuck at that same job wondering where the time went and what happened to your ambitions. If you don’t have any dreams or ambitions and just want to survive, then by all means take a job.
But if you aren’t like the rest of them and you really have dreams of doing something great, then never take a job doing something you hate.
The best thing I ever did in my life was quit my job. The job that I hated. The job that I dreaded going to every morning. People thought I was nuts but it didn’t matter.
I had a plan and nothing was going to stop me. I quit with barely enough money to survive for a month. That forced me to hustle like never before. It was a very scary time but it has paid off in dividends.
People say “never quit your job until you’re making enough to support yourself”. Yeah, right. That will take you years to start pulling in enough income from your side gig while spending 50 plus hours a week making other people rich.
Quitting your job will show you what you are really made of. It is like being stranded in the Yukon with nothing but a rifle. You have to go out and find your own food or you will starve to death.
Obviously, you must have a plan if you quit your job. You can’t quit with no money and no idea of how to start making money. But if you have an idea, and a fire burning inside, then give up the crummy job. You will be glad you did.
Either you will succeed and start doing what you’ve always wanted or you will fail. Failure is not a bad thing. Failure is a fantastic teacher. Here is a very simple formula every great entrepreneur has learned the hard way.
1) Fail
2) Learn from your mistakes
3) Try again until you succeed.
There is nothing worse in life than never trying. Unfortunately most of us never do try and we’re stuck in jobs we hate trying to make ends meet, wondering how the guy on TV got so “lucky”. Never trying is the coward’s way out.
You are on this site so we know that you are not a coward. You may walk, talk and act like one but deep down you have something brewing and you are looking for a way to succeed. You’re just scared to take that chance.
Well, what are you scared of? Not having just enough money to barely get by every month? Scared of what people might say? Scared of failing?
If you don’t do it now, you probably never will. And you know it. So just take a chance, for once.
*This article is for the guy or girl who absolutely hates their job and thinks they should be doing bigger and better things. This article is not for the person who has a good job and enjoys it.
But then again if you have a good job that you enjoy, why would you be reading this website?
An oldie but a goody. This post helped mould me into the person I am today. Live or die baby! live or die!
“that will take you years to start pulling in enough income from your side gig while spending 50 plus hours a week making other people rich.”
Then quit it all in one, start an enterprise and have people working to survive nad to make yourself rich, hoping they never read this blog :D.
I just finished my last shift at my shitty job last night! I’m now on call for wildland firefighting! I’ve spent the last two weeks taking firefighting classes. It’s awesome! They are completely honest about everything, none of the corporate bullshit that my last job had. The information they taught us is pure gold. Not just for firefighting but life in general. They taught us that we need to always have clear plans and intent when firefighting (and in life) they taught us how to clearly communicate with others, and how to always be aware of our surroundings. They even told us to look for the beauty around us out in the wilderness, because that, along with the adrenaline, proper hydration, and pacing ourselves (and the money of course, like I said, no bullshit.) is what keeps you going for 2 weeks straight if 12-14hr days. This summer is going to be awesome.
Too true.
I picked a sales job for two reasons:
1. I hate it.
2. I get paid well for it.
Reason number one prevents me from getting comfortable. Reason number two ensures I can continue to build a life that I actually enjoy.
“But then again if you have a good job that you enjoy, why would you be reading this website?”
Because I realize that after 25 years at my job, I work really hard, but I am really lazy.
I have settled for 2% yearly raises, making about $60K a year when I could do so much more.
I am haunted by the knowledge that if I had worked as hard for myself as I did for someone else the last 25 years, I would be really wealthy.
It’s never too late to be a pimp. Make a plan, quit your job, and get your campaign on. You know you can do it.
You will never get rich working for somebody else is as obvious as it gets. Nor will you be free and powerful and desireable to the finest women. You won’t be a king. You will barely be a man.
I am writng articles for my upcoming blog-site (that’s what I call it). And I have a set date to be active online; up-and-running. I am saving money NOW so I can leave the rat race forever and dedicate myself to succeeding in my own business.
I found Bold and Determined about a year ago. I spent an entire weekend reading the articles here.
Thank you Victor. As always, words of wisdom once again.
Thanks for this Vic,
It’s super inspiring just to go back and see where you started and how it developed into the empire you’re sitting on and still building now.
What I like the most is that you feel the hunger in these old ones just as much as every other article. The hunger just progresses to different levels and you can see it through the growth of each.
Very inspiring. As you said, we hear from every corner that we must not leave our job until we have enough to support our aspiration. But, with time our responsibilities proliferate, forcing us to leave our dream to meet both ends meet; leaving job early to focus on our aspiration is that one decision that makes or breaks our dream. But leaving without a plan is disastrous.
When you have a plan and aspiration in congruity, leaving job is the wisest decision. Beginning will be tough, forcing you to rethink your decision. It is a test of God to assess, whether you deserve your aspiration?
I have faced it all.
really remarkable post—true to life.
“But then again if you have a good job that you enjoy, why would you be reading this website?”.
Lol agreed.
It’s a really scary jump, but I’m going to do it.
It’s a good reminder of why you’re here. A recommended reread!
You should quit your job because you are not a slave, or are you?
You really think that no one with a good job reads your shit? I liked my job as a firefighter but I was a skinny bastard and found your site because of body of a Spartan.
